On August 14th the TRUE Downtown Arts District will open the doors of cafés, galleries, performance venues, and 40 studios (and counting) in the second happening of a new Open Studio Tour series. This series will coincide with the annual street fair known as Bloomfest which will feature 15 live bands, vendor booths and food trucks.
Artists, designers, architects, writers, and performers new and old have continued to make extensive and impressive work in the area. The summer event in part acts as a cultural reminder that the post-industrial downtown never stopped producing. The district also hosts internationally well-known graffiti walls that draw many visitors on a daily basis.

Muay Thai Warriors, Fighters, and Fans!!! This Saturday Aug 14, 2010, Thailand’s world renowned national sport Muay Thai will have its first ever sanctioned world title fight in the United States. On Saturday Push Kick Promotions will bring “The Battle of Champions” event to Southern California where the event will be held at Saugus Speedway in Saugus, CA.
A little history about Muay Thai for those are interested. Muay Thai which has been practiced for many centuries is an explosive full contact, stand-up, hand-to-hand combat. Rules allow fighters to use punches and kicks along with the elbows and knees, and is often referred to as “The Art of Eight Limbs”.
“The Battle of Champions” main event will feature Numpon “Tornado” with a record of 70-5-0 against Lom-Esan “The Destroyer” with a record of 60-2-0 for the World Muay Thai Council’s World Welterweight Title Belt. In addition, other international Muay Thai Fighters from Thailand, Canada and Japan, as well as fighters from California will be on the undercard.
This is the first time that California and the United States will be host to a Muay Thai event of such magnitude. An expected audience of over 8,000 will witness the WMC’s main event along with the President of the International Amateur Muay Thai Federation who will also attend.
In addition to Muay Thai, the event will be mixed with a Live Band Concert performance from URBAN ASSAULT and HED-P.E. Food will be provided by your favorite, THE PLACE LA! =)
